Welcome to Grade 5B!

This blog is a glimpse into the life of Grade 5B. Although this is our last term together, we will be regularly updating our blog and sharing insightful, strange, humorous and (most importantly) educational highlights with our friends and families.

The fourth term is often the busiest with exams, award ceremonies and final preparations for Grade 6, but it is also always the most fun! So sit back, relax and enjoy reading all about the adventures of Grade 5B!

The Bright Shining Stars of 5B 2010!

Well, it's all over and wow did the time fly! A whole year and we did so much in that time.

Thank you so much to all of you for making 2010 such a spectacularly fun year, there was so much laughter and there were so many happy times.

Last Monday night we all attended the Academic Awards Ceremony for the Grade 4's and 5's. The corridors were filled with excitement and anticipation as the girls prepared for the show, the show in which they were all recognised for their amazing talents and achievements. It was a wonderful evening and I felt so proud of every star in 5B!

You are all such stars and I hope that you have put your glow-in-the-dark stars somewhere where you can see them every night before you go to bed. That way you will never forget how much brightness you add to the world. Just keep shining!

Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you all in 2011!

2nd Last Week of the Year!

Exams are over! We were all so relieved when we ruled our last line after our last exam. You were all relieved because you didn't have to rush home and study for another exam and I was relieved because it was the last set of exams for me to mark!

Monday was a rather sad day for us all as we had to say good bye to our dear friend Ashleigh. She and her family boarded the plane for Australia on Tuesday so she should be there by now, ready to start a new life in a new and exciting place. We surprised her with a little farewell party and a gift from all of us which she seemed to love. We made a good choice about the book that we gave her because it was even on her Christmas list! I'm sure she's finished reading it already - she would have had enough time on the long plane trip!

Yesterday we had such a fun day on our outing to the Liesbeeck river. It was such a beautiful day and we learnt a lot about the plants and animals along the river before enjoying a lovely picnic and an exciting cricket match in the park. Congratulations to Jessica for getting a hatrick when she was bowling. I think she passed her good luck onto me who also then got a hatrick. I think I should give up teaching and join the SA Ladies Cricket Team!

Today was another fun day! Our African Dancing workshop was such a hit - I never knew that so many of you are so good at dancing! WOZA!!!! We also got our Walton's boxes which is always an exciting thing. There are so many books in those boxes...I hope you girls are ready for all the hard work ahead in Grade 6!

Don't forget that we have our lovely Carol's Evening tomorrow at from 5pm - 8pm, it is always wonderful to enjoy a picnic while listening to the carols to get us into the Christmas spririt. There will also be lots of interesting things to buy so bring some money along too.

On Friday we are having a Grade 5 pool party! You need to bring your swimming costumes and R20 so that we can get some party snacks and drinks to enjoy by the poolside on Friday morning.

Enjoy the afternoon girls. You have lots more time to do fun things now that all the studying is over!

2 More To Go!

Last afternoon of serious studying, girls! Don't be lousy on Geography like Billy-Joe, or on Afrikaans taal. Study hard and have a good sleep tonight.
See you tomorrow xxx

Exams Well Under Way

5 down, 4 to go!

I'm sure that you will agree that the exams are not as bad as you were all expecting them to be! We have finished 5 already so we're passed halfway.

Luckily we did lots of revision last week and it actually turned out to be rather fun. It certainly looks like fun in the photos of our revision plays and adverts!

The Muslim girls also celebrated Eid last week, so a belated Eid mubarak to all of you and your families. Samar even came to school in her beautiful dress so that she didn't miss her Maths assessment, and Haseena brought her dress to show us too. You both looked absolutely stunning in your pretty outfits!

Today, before our History paper, we had to take a moment and sing happy birthday to Miley Cyrus. Can you see that she even managed to find time in her busy schedule to visit us in our classroom this morning?

Khanyo is the biggest fan of Hannah Montanna and Mily Cyrus, so we all hope that the young superstar had a wonderful 18th birthday! I'm sure that Khanyo will be just as famous when she's 18 years old!

Just remember to stay cool, calm and collected for the next four exams and make sure that you prepare the best that you can.

A Muddled Mind!

Oh dear girls, does this look like me?

Old Woman

It is certainly how I feel at the moment, I seem to be losing my mind. After muddling all my words in class today AND I forgot to put a birthday message onto our class blog for Caitlin B's birthday yesterday...even after mentioning the delicious treats that she brought. She even brought her new 30 Seconds to Mars CD for us to listen to and I still didn't click! I fear your teacher is starting to lose her marbles, girls.

So Caitlin, a very happy birthday for yesterday! I hope that you had a wonderful day - you certainly looked like you were. And I know everybody loved your treats, they were delicious, so thank you very much for those!

Some advice for today...some of you need to revise measurement conversions in Maths - it still seems to be confusing some of you. You should also revise the seasons so that we can go over that one more time if we need to.

Have another lovely afternoon girls! See you all tomorrow!

A Blustery Tuesday!

It was quite a co-incidence that we learnt about wind in Geography today as it was such a windy day! I wonder what rating it would have had on the Beaufort Scale! One thing I do know is that the level of madness rated quite high on the Grade 5B Madness Scale today...I think there was far too much sugar in Caitlin's birthday treats!

I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to every single one of you that took part in the Prestige Music Concert last night, it was absolutely amazing. I had no idea that Khanyo and Mbali had such natural rhythm which they demonstrated during the African Dance performance, and all of you in the choir sounded so beautiful. Tabitha looked lovely up on stage with her guitar under her arm and Nicola tinkled along beautifully with the Orff group. As for Bronwyn, I would never have been able to do what she did, playing a solo part on the glockenspiel with the whole orchestra. You played beautifully, Bronwyn, and the sound added a touch of magic to that piece. Well done to all of you, I felt so proud.

I thoroughly enjoyed the adverts that you made up about Substance Abuse today, I think you have all got the message about how harmful the effects of abusing those substance are. We've had excellent History Plays, important LO adverts...so, I think we'll do some Science tomorrow...maybe a dance or a rap!

Enjoy the afternoon. Do some revision, and then relax and read a book. Don't watch too much T.V - you know what happens to children who do!!!

Words, Words, Words!
