After answering a few questions about Andre se reis in Afrikaans and marking a few perimeter problems in Maths, we got stuck into a serious debate during which some very interesting issues were raised.
We were supposed to be learning about the different city-states in Ancient Greece, but somehow, between talking about Athens, symposiums, the birth of democracy and philosophy, we ended up having our own philosophical discussion about why we eat cows and not horses, why the chicken crossed the road and not another animal, and why some people eat other people!
I was very impressed with some of the questions that were asked and there were some that I couldn't even begin to answer! The answers to some of them would require years of research! I think Plato and Aristotle would have loved to hold a debate with 5B! There were some heated moments and I had to call the class to order a number of times. I think that we might even have one or two politicians amongst the class.
We also picked new names out of a hat for secret friends. Last week, we all had a secret spy to help us pinpoint the things that we need to work on in the classroom. This week, we're going to be secret friends instead of secret spies. It's always lovely to know that someone is thinking of you and it's amazing what a kind word or two can do to your day. So don't forget to spoil your friends this week, girls, because someone will be spoiling you too.
Have a great afternoon. Spend some time thinking about your English oral topic. I'm looking forward to hearing all about what you find interesting about our current news and world affairs!
